Honey Poached Kieffer Pear
Ingredients
- Kieffer Pear
- 3 cup water
- 1/2 cup honey
- Squeeze of lemon
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 anise stars
- 1 vanilla pod
Instructions
The Kieffer pears is probably one of the most exciting variety of pears.
An accidental hybrid between a European and Chinese sand pear, they are crisp, juicy, and have a very unique musky aroma.
We think the best way to enjoy these is poaching the fruit, with burrata, mascarpone, or vanilla ice cream!
- Peel the fruit
- Cut in half or leave as is
- Combine water, honey, lemon juice, cinnamon, star anise, and vanilla in a saucepan
- Bring to a boil and set heat to low
- Add pear and let it it simmer for 10 minutes
- Turn every 5 minutes and do not overcook (they're done when they soften a bit)
- Turn off heat and let it sit in the liquid for 5 minutes
- Remove from saucepan and plate
- Boil the poaching liquid to medium heat until it's reduced and thickens
- Pour over pear and enjoy
- If you're feeling adventurous, serve with mascarpone, burrata, or vanilla ice cream
